Staubachās Strategies for Success After Sports

As the founder and CEO of a worldwide commercial real estate company (The Staubach Company) that does billions of dollars worth of transactions annually, Roger Staubach is as respected in the business world as he was on the football field. This legendary Heisman Trophy winner (Navy, 1963) and Hall of Fame quarterback ö who led the Dallas Cowboys to two Super Bowl titles back in the 1970s ö had business on the brain long before his football days were done. So itās no surprise that Staubach was named as one of OT Magazineās finalist for the 2005 OT 10 Awards.

Staubach offers his strategies for success after sports:

  • Spend time in the off season getting some experience in the business world
  • Be prepared to start at the bottom in the business world ö even if you are used to being on top in sports
  • Be dedicated to your sport and your family, and be prepared to be just as dedicated to your post-sports career
  • Aim to be as successful in business as you were as an athlete
  • Learn from people in your future field
  • Donāt make risky investments that will jeopardize your net worth
  • Be prepared to face challenges in life
  • Surround yourself with good people
  • Use what you learned as an athlete when it comes to teamwork, hard work and perseverance
